Is The IPL Governing Council Fair In Choosing The Venues?

The IPL Governing Council carried out crucial decisions about the TATA IPL 2022 Season in the recent meeting. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 15th edition has been decided to be introduced in a bio-secure atmosphere at a single hub in order to avoid airline travel, which is a big concern for the emergence of the COVID-19 virus, impacting both the participants as well as the League/matches. Here we have discussed IPL 2022 Venues and Why IPL Franchises Raise Objections Against MI?

The competition will begin on March 26, 2022, and will conclude on May 29, 2022. In Mumbai and Pune, 70 league games will be contested over 4 international grade stadiums. The venue of the playoff games will be revealed further.

IPL 2022 Venues & Matches:

Mumbai:

20 Matches: Wankhede Stadium

15 Matches: Brabourne Stadium (CCI)

20 Matches: DY Patil Stadium

Pune:

15 Matches: MCA International Stadium

Wankhede Stadium & DY Patil Stadium will each host four matches. Brabourne Stadium (CCI) & MCA International Stadium, both in Pune, will host three matches respectively. The 10 sides will compete in a maximum of 14 league games (7 at home & 7 away), for a potential of 70 league games, preceded by four playoffs. Five teams will be played twice by each side, while the four remaining sides will only be played once (2 home & 2 away).

Teams were split into 2 virtual groups proportional to the number of IPL Championships won by each team, representing the number of Final games played by each team.

IPL 2022 Franchises Raise Objections:

View below topics in this post

Certain IPL franchises have voiced their concerns over Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) will makes ‘home advantage’. Because no other teams will be able to play at home. It would be unfair if MI performs the majority of its fixtures at Wankhede, which has also been their home for many years. This is a great deal of concern by the franchisees.

The franchises don’t have a problem because the Mumbai Indians playing the majority of their games at DY Patil Stadium and in Pune. Also, the Brabourne stadium is in good shape. Perhaps, the BCCI would consider the issues.

To be more specific, the BCCI confirmed that no teams would play matches at their home grounds during the first phase of the IPL 2021 in India. The Mumbai Indians (MI) were forced to play five games in Chennai in other venues.  In addition, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) play a portion of their fixtures in Mumbai. None of the eight IPL teams had any home games.

However, the IPL GC’s decision seemed to be unfair for the other franchises, BCCI would confront a challenging task if they considers the objections raised by the remaining IPL franchises. Hopefully, the BCCI has opted to play the entire TATA IPL 2022 tournament inside India after taking the necessary precautions to restrict the COVID from breaching the campaign and functioning smoothly without any interruptions.

Furthermore, IPL spectators from all over the globe are eager to see the prestigious 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, which will include their favorite players in action on the field.
