While chasing a target of 169 in a do or die game, Du Plessis played a crucial inning of 44 runs off 38 balls and did a 115 runs partnership with Virat Kohli for the first wicket to guide his team to win the game.

The right-hand batter with his innings edged past David Warner (427 runs) to claim the fourth spot. Jos Butler, the destructive opener of team Rajasthan remains firm at the top of the table with 627 runs in 13 games, while the skipper of already qualified LSG, KL Rahul with 537 runs was at second.

The 37-year-old Du Plessis, who was just short of 400 runs and was at 10th place before the start of the game, climbed up to fourth with his impressive 44 runs knock, which he scored at a strike rate of 115.78.

So far in IPL 2022, he has scored 443 runs with an average of 34.08 in 14 matches.

After setting the platform to reach the 169 run target, the skipper got out on 44, Virat Kohli’s back in form knock of 73, and the quick show of Glenn Maxwell (40 off 18) in the last couple of overs helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to beat Gujarat Titans.

Delhi Capitals, who will play their last league game against Mumbai on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium, are at the 5th spot with 14 points and if they win the game against MI, then they will edge past RCB and book the final qualifying spot for playoffs, but if they lose then RCB will qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs.
