Ravindra Jadeja has opted to step down as captain in order to focus on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK again.

MS Dhoni, who has led Chennai to four IPL titles, has agreed to lead CSK in the larger interest, allowing Jadeja to concentrate on his game.

“Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” a statement from CSK said on Saturday.

After Dhoni and Suresh Raina, Jadeja became the third player to lead the Super Kings side, having joined the franchise in 2012. At the outset of this IPL, Dhoni gave him the captaincy.

But Jadeja couldn’t manage to handle the captaincy pressure and witnessed a downfall in his own game as well, so he decided to step down as captain and handed the captaincy to MS Dhoni.

Jadeja was seen as clueless while batting this season, getting 112 runs in 92 balls at a strike rate of 121.7, with a boundary every 8.3 balls. He was not even good at bowling this year too as in the eight matches he played, he only fared to take five wickets.

Dhoni guided Super Kings to 130 wins, and six trophies in 213 matches in which he led the Super Kings, four in the IPL and two in the now-defunct Champions League T20.

The Defending Champions, who only managed to record two wins from 8 games, are currently 9th on the IPL Points Table under the captainship of Ravindra Jadeja.

Chennai Super Kings will play their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 01, 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

The match will start at 7:30 pm. You can watch this contest on Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 (Hindi), Star Sports (HD), Star Sports Tamil, Star Sports Telugu, Star Sports Kannada, Star Sports Bangla. The online streaming of the match will be available on the Disney+Hotsar.
