IPL 2022: Four Hyped Players Who Failed To Perform In The League Stage

IPL 2022 threw up many interesting names into the mainstream. Players who were previously unknown used the stage beautifully. The likes of Rinku Singh, Mohsin Khan, and Ayush Badani all showcased their talent. But on the flip side, there were few names who flattered to deceive. These stars couldn’t carry the burden of expectations with them. Their ineffective performances cost their teams badly. Here we can have Four hyped Players who have flopped in this season

We look at Four hyped players who flopped big time this season

#4 Shreyas Iyer

There was a lot riding on Shreyas Iyer this year. The newly appointed KKR captain was expected to lead the side with aplomb. While Iyer’s captaincy was pretty decent it was with the bat that he disappointed big time. Iyer notched up 401 runs in 14 games at an average of 30.85. His strike rate of 134.56 too didn’t stand out. Iyer was found wanting against the short ball. Teams effectively used this tactic to tie him down. He didn’t paint a pretty picture at the crease this season.

 #3 Ishan Kishan

If a player scores above 400 runs in a single season it is regarded as a fine year. But the stakes were so high for Ishan Kishan this season that he had a season to forget this year. Kishan failed to get going in most of the games. His strike rate which was considered his biggest strength turned out to be the other way this season (120.11). Kishan scored 418 runs in 14 games at an average of 32.15. He will be wanting to turn it around in the next season.

#2 Shahrukh Khan

The Punjab Kings had shown a lot of faith while buying Shahrukh Khan back in the auctions. They spent a whopping INR 9 crores on the Tamil Nadu finisher. But it was an investment that failed spectacularly. Khan scored a meager 117 runs in the 8 games he featured in.

Representing a side that played with peerless freedom, Shahrukh’s strike rate of 108.33 stuck out like a sore thumb. PBKS had to drop him midway through the tournament. He looked unhappy being picked in the side as he had clearly mentioned he wanted CSK to buy him. It was one of the most disappointing stories of the IPL this season.

#1 Kane Williamson

The SRH captain, Kane Williamson, was the most controversial retention this season. SRH retained Kane for INR 14 crores. Kane was SRH’s first choice retention ahead of the likes of Rashid Khan. But Williamson had his worst ever season with the bat. He scored a paltry 216 runs this season in 13 games at an abysmal average of 19.64. But what makes his numbers worse is his strike rate of 93.51. SRH might be ruing the move to retain an overseas skipper.
