The teams of GT and RR who finished first and second in the league phase with their consistent performances met in the final match of IPL 2022 that ended in the Favour of Gujarat Titans.
Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare to win the IPL 2022 title.
Chasing a target of 131, GT witnessed a rough start as they lost two quick wickets in the form of Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Saha at just 23 runs.
However, Shubhman Gill and the skipper Hardik Pandya then steadied their ship and added 63 runs before Yuzvendra Chahal trapped Pandya his leg spin. The captain of Gujarat Titans played a sensible knock of 34 off 30 to help his team reach the target.
Shubhman from one end carry forward his anchoring approach, while David Miller smashed a quick unbeaten 31 in 19 to hand his team IPL 2022 title.
Earlier, RR won the toss and elected to bat, and started their final game campaign on a good note. When both their openers added 31 runs in just 3.5 overs, but Jaiswal was caught when attempting to hit a big hit on the last ball of 4th over.
Jos Buttler and the captain of RR then added 29 runs for the second wicket but the skipper of GT removed Samson in the 9th over, and after that team Rajasthan lost their track and lose quick wickets. All of their big batter failed to score runs on the big occasion as the Royals only managed to put 130 runs on board in 20 overs.
Buttler (39) scored the highest run for RR.
For GT, Hardik Pandya bagged 3, Sai Kishore grabbed 2, and Mohammed Shami, Yash Dayal and Rashid Khan took a wicket each.
Interestingly, both teams faced each other twice earlier this season, including Qualifier 1, with GT winning both games.
