IPL 2022 Auction: ‘CSK Wants To Buy Him’ Ashwin Expects Bidding War For Faf Du Plessis

The blockbuster auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is nearing, and all 10 teams will be extremely curious. On February 12 and 13, a two-day auction event is held in Bangalore. There is  Bidding War For Faf Du Plessis expected by R Ashwin.

A significant proportion of 590 cricketers, 370 Indians, and 220 foreigners, will be auctioned off in the hopes of landing favorable terms. It’s worth noting that each of the 8 established franchises has only been allowed to retain a total of 4 players.

Simultaneously, the 2 additional teams, Ahmedabad & Lucknow, each chose 3 players from the non-retained listing. Furthermore, experienced Indian off-spinner R Ashwin believes Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would have to pay a high price to restore Faf du Plessis. Over the ages, the legendary South African skipper has been a significant part of the squad.

CSK should definitely be ready to spend a lot more to buy Du Plessis: R Ashwin

In fact, he figured prominently in CSK’s 4th triumph in 2021. In 14 games, the starter amassed 633 runs, coming only 2 runs ahead of the Orange Cap. Although he wasn’t one of CSK’s 4 retainers, the SA hitter will now be auctioned off, and Ashwin anticipates bidding for Faf.

“Last time around, CSK stole Faf du Plessis for 1.5 crore. But this time, I don’t see that type of steal happening for him. CSK fans will definitely have him on their wish list. If CSK wants to buy Faf du Plessis this time, they should definitely be ready to spend a lot more than they did last time. Faf du Plessis will have a great demand in my opinion. Faf will be sought after by most teams,” said Ashwin.

“De Kock recently retired from Test cricket. So, most teams can think since he has retired from Tests, he will be going to all countries playing T20 cricket and so he will be sought after,” stated the 35-year-old.

“When it comes to foreign openers, one who should be going for highest in the pecking order is Jonny Bairstow. There is no such thing called ‘Negative bone’ in Bairstow’s body. He targets all the bowlers from the word go putting the bowlers under extreme pressure. Bairstow will command a huge price in this year’s auctions,” concluded Ashwin.
