IPL 2022: ‘New Malinga’ To Join Yellow Army As Adam Milne’s Replacement

After losing some of the key bowlers like Deepak Chahar and Adam Milne, Chennai Super Kings now has got some good news to cherish. The yellow franchise found Adam Milne’s replacement.

IPL 2022: CSK Have Finally Signed Adam Milne’s Replacement

Matheesha Pathirana, the U19 cricketing champion from Sri Lanka, is going to join the Chennai franchise. His services were purchased for Rs.20 lakhs, according to the Indian Premier League (IPL)’s official website.

The team, which forayed into IPL as the defending champions, could not really prove its might. Poor bowling line-up is considered to be one of the attributes of the team’s unexpected downward performance in the 15th season.

The team is now waiting for better options to strike at its door to showcase a winning momentum. Going through tough times with many players’ dropping from the team due to unanticipated injuries, the good news comes in the form of Matheesha Pathirana.

Considering his performance during U19 stints, this Sri Lankan pacer can be of great help in making some progress this IPL season. He represented Sri Lanka two times in the U19 World Cups held in 2020 and 2022

Dubbed as “New Malinga”, Pathirana possesses slinging action added with great speed. In the 2022 U-19 World Cup, he scalped seven wickets in four games at an economy of 6.16 by bowling at a great speed.

In one of the surprising incidents that took place while playing against India, he shocked the cricket fraternity with a record speed of 175 km/h. Although it was later revealed that there was some technical issue, and it was not a 175 km/h ball, Pathirana made an impact that he can bowl at the highest speed.

In a statement issued by BCCI, the board said Chennai Super Kings have signed Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. “Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament,” the statement read.

The statement further said his replacement Pathirana, is a young 19-year-old medium-pacer from Sri Lanka who was part of Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022. He will join CSK at the price of INR 20 Lakh, it added.
