IPL 2021 will begin on 9 April 2021. The 14th season of IPL will return to its roots, the tournament will be played in India. Teams have started assembling for the mega tournament. The bio-bubbles and security have been taken care of. But there is one concern plaguing all teams is the fitness and availability of key players.
#1 Delhi Capitals
Shreyas Iyer who dislocated his shoulder in the ODI series against England will be missing the major part of the season. Delhi Capitals’ pace twins Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje will miss the first 3-4 games. They are currently playing an ODI series with Pakistan. The DC camp will severely miss these 3 key players. They have been an integral part of DC’s success over the last couple of years. Rishabh Pant is the new captain of DC. His current form must come as a big relief for DC. He will be hungry to prove his mettle as captain.
#2 Chennai Super Kings
Just like Rabada and Nortje, Lungi Ngidi too will be missing the initial few games. CSK will miss explosive pace. They are already without Josh Hazelwood. Ravindra Jadeja too is an unlikely starter in the IPL even though he has joined the team bubble.
#3 Rajasthan Royals
Jofra Archer was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of IPL 2020. He suffered a freak fish tank accident. He had a successful surgery. The procedure removed a fragment of glass from his middle finger on the right hand. Archer will miss the first 4 games.
#4 Sunrisers Hyderabad
Mitchell Marsh has pulled out from the IPL citing bio-bubble fatigue. Jason Roy, the England opener will replace Mitchell Marsh. Marsh just played a single IPL game last season before bowing out owing to injury.
#5 Mumbai Indians
Quinton de Kock is likely to miss the first four games in the IPL. He will be plying his trade for South Africa competing against Pakistan in the ODI series. Ishan Kishan might partner Rohit Sharma at the top in Kock’s absence.
#6 Royal Challengers Bangalore
Adam Zampa, the Australian wrist-spinner is set to miss the first game for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Zampa is all set to tie the knot. The RCB camp believes it is an important time for the player and they respect his choice. They are hoping Zampa joins them with renewed vigour and energy post the break.
