International Cricket Council (ICC) Postpones Two More Events

International Cricket Council defers two more important events:

The ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 of Men which acts as a qualifying game for the 2020 Men’s World Cup, and the ICC U-19 World Cup regional qualifier division 2 have been deferred because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The league 2 was scheduled to be organized by Papua New Guinea along with Namibia and the United States while the under-19 World Cup tournament was scheduled to be taken place from 7th to 14th August in Tanzania, with Kenya, Botswana, Rwanda, Mozambique, and  Sierra Leone joining the hosts.

The International Cricket Council’s events head, Chris Tetley said: “With ongoing restrictions on international travel, concerns on health globally still important and public health authority advised because of the Covid-19, we have take decisions with the board members to defer two further qualifying events.”

Chris Tetley Statement:

Considering the deferment of the Men’s World Cup 2023 nearly six months to give some space to organize qualification rounds, Chris Tetley said: “We will be now working with the participating members as well as with hosts to find out a proper window where cricket can be played safely and practically possible.”

He further added “In this week’s ICC Board meeting, the board members have taken the decision to hold the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in 2023 October and November. Now we have been giving extra time to reschedule the Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 deferred games and help us to reserve the  reliability of the qualification procedures permitting it to hold on the playing ground.”

The final of the League 2 World Cup will be held in February, with games scheduled for April called off as cricket came to standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
