India’s spin wizard: Happy Birthday Ravichandran Ashwin

Happy Birthday R Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin has proven to be a match-winner in the longest format of cricket during the past decade. The all-rounder, who made his debut in 2011, has 413 Test wickets to his name. Ashwin is the fourth Indian bowler to reach 400 wickets. The spinner has so far amassed 29 five-wicket hauls and five test centuries.

Ashwin was born on September 17, 1986, into a Tamil Brahmin family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He lives in West Mambalam, Chennai. Ravichandran’s father played club cricket as a fast bowler. Ashwin attended Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan and St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School for his schooling. He also attended SSN College of Engineering, where he earned a B-Tech in information technology. Given that St. Bede’s had a cricket academy, his time there was extremely significant.

Ashwin commenced his cricket journey as an opening batsman and a medium-pace bowler. With his 6 feet 2 inch height in mind, CK Vijay, his childhood coach, assisted him in making the switch to an off-spinner. Even though Ashwin’s bowling is his forte, he has proven himself to be a solid lower-order hitter for India. His batting talent is well demonstrated by the five Test tons that he amassed in some really challenging circumstances.

The right-handed all-rounder Ravichandran represents India in international cricket. He plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League and Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket. According to certain records, he is also the joint-fastest bowler in the world and is the only Indian bowler to accumulate 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 wickets in Test cricket in terms of the number of innings played.

Some of his popular bowling figures in international cricket are:

6/47 against West Indies in his test match debut.

4/62 & 3/59 against England.

3/57 & 3/92 against Australia.

4/113 against South Africa.

5/43 against England

Ashwin is a right-arm off-break spinner who is one of India’s best. Ashwin is well-known for his ability to spin the ball both ways. Besides his leg spinners, Ashwin is renowned for his carrom ball skills. Because of this, he is not just the top spinner in India but one of the best spinners in the world.

Ashwin is the only Indian cricketer to strike a century and take five wickets in the same Test match on two consecutive occasions. On this important day, let’s wish Ashwin a happy birthday, hope for his wellbeing, and send him our best wishes for the future. Happy Birthday Ravichandran Ashwin.
