This marks his first coaching role in the league, and it’s a homecoming of sorts, as Pietersen previously captained the Delhi franchise (then known as Delhi Daredevils) during the 2014 season.
Delhi Capitals’ squad for IPL 2025 & recent changes
DC finished sixth in IPL 2024 and have made bold squad decisions ahead of the new season. They released Rishabh Pant, while retaining key players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel.
In the auction, they strengthened their squad by signing KL Rahul, Harry Brook, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc, making them one of the most talked-about teams ahead of the season.

Pietersen will be working alongside head coach Hemang Badani, who took over in October 2024. The rest of the staff includes:

Pietersen’s experience & impact
Pietersen, one of England’s most dynamic batters, has vast experience in global T20 leagues, having played in the IPL, BBL, PSL, and CPL. Across 200 T20 matches, he scored 5,695 runs at an impressive average of 33.89 and a strike rate close to 137.
Pietersen’s leadership experience, including his captaincy stint for England and brief IPL captaincy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2009, makes him a valuable addition to Delhi’s setup. With DC still chasing their first IPL title and only one final appearance to date, his mentorship could provide the strategic guidance needed to help the team perform at their best in IPL 2025.
