Is Lockie Ferguson ruled out of IPL 2025?

Punjab Kings have been dealt a major blow midway through their IPL 2025 campaign as New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson is likely to miss the remainder of the season. PBKS bowling coach James Hopes confirmed the development ahead of their high-stakes clash with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Ferguson’s fitness woes have continued since his hamstring injury in the ILT20 earlier this year, which also ruled him out of the Champions Trophy for New Zealand. With his exit, Punjab will now look toward their overseas pace options – Xavier Bartlett and Azmatullah Omarzai – to fill the void. 

On the domestic front, Vijaykumar Vyshak has impressed in his limited appearances, while Yash Thakur and Kuldeep Sen remain in the mix for upcoming matches. 

Punjab Kings IPL 2025 Campaign: What’s Next?

Punjab Kings have had a rollercoaster ride in IPL 2025 so far. After a strong start with convincing wins over Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, they stumbled against Rajasthan Royals but bounced back with a crucial win over Chennai Super Kings.  

However, their recent defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad exposed a few vulnerabilities, particularly in the bowling department. 

Currently sitting sixth on the table with 6 points from 5 matches and a net run rate of +0.065. The road ahead won’t be easy—they face Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru twice in quick succession, followed by rematches against CSK, MI, and DC.  

With Ferguson ruled out, their bowling depth will be tested, and they’ll need Indian pacers like Vyshak and Yash Thakur to step up. Batting has looked steady, but consistency will be key if they are to break into the top four. 

As the tournament enters its second half, every game becomes crucial. PBKS will need to find the right balance, manage player workloads, and capitalize on momentum if they aim to make a serious playoff push.
