India Won’t Travel To Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 says BCCI’s secretary Jay Shah

Asia Cup 2023: Asian Cricket Council president Jay Shah on Tuesday said that Team India will not travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup and the prestigious tournament will be held at a neutral venue.

“I am saying this as ACC President. We [India] can’t go there [to Pakistan], they can’t come here. In the past also, Asia Cup has been played at a neutral venue. The Asia Cup 2023 will be held at a neutral venue.”

Talking to the reporter Jay Shah said “We will have Asia Cup 2023 at a neutral venue. It’s the government that decides over the permission of the team visiting Pakistan so we won’t comment on that but for the Asia Cup 2023 it’s decided that the tournament will be held at some neutral venue.

What’s the alternative

Since India won’t be going to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup. It’s unclear where the event will actually take place. The news broke today during the BCCI annual general meeting in Mumbai, where Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), proposed that the Asia Cup be staged at a different location in 2023.

What was the actual plan?

The 2023 Asia Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy will both be held in Pakistan over the course of the following three years. While India will host the 2023 ODI World Cup. It will be interesting to see how Shah’s remarks according to which. Pakistan and India cannot play each other effect the tournament schedules.

The upcoming Asia Cup in Pakistan was identified by the BCCI as one of the “major/multi-national tournaments” for the Indian men’s team in its AGM agenda item. Speaking on the Champions Trophy 2025, he said “The venue for the 2025 Championship trophy is still to be decided. We will comment on that when it is decided. We are getting good earnings from our Media rights. Our motive is domestic players should get more benefits as our earnings are increasing.”
