It has taken a long time for the script of women’s cricket to come to the limelight and see bright days. Although international cricket for Indian women started way back in the 70s, there wasn’t much awareness about it. Gradually with on and off schedule, the women started participating in international competitions. There were few testing and brilliant performances by the women of India for which Shanta Rangaswamy, Diana Edulji, Shubhangi Kulkarni, and Sandhya Agarwal were also awarded with Arjuna award in 1976. India played their first ODI in 1978, the same year they played their first World Cup. They lost all the matches.

Since then the team has come a long way. India women have been in the finals of the World cup for two times now. In the previous edition World cup which was held in 2017, India finished as runners-up and brought immense glory to the nation, and helped the women vertical of the game to get more attention from the large army of viewers in India.
