Will Bumrah Play at Edgbaston? India Consider Giving Bumrah a Break

Will Jasprit Play in the 2nd Test Against England?

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has questioned India’s team selection for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, beginning July 2. His comments come after India’s five-wicket defeat at the series opener at Headingley, with England chasing a target of 371, led by Ben Duckett’s 149. Indian key pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj didn’t perform in the second innings, both not getting any wickets. So Let’s take a look at Will Jasprit Play in the 2nd Test Against England.

In a key development, India are likely to rest pace leader Jasprit Bumrah for the second Test of India tour of England 2025 in accordance with a pre-determined workload management approach. Bumrah, who bowled an exhausting 43.4 overs during the first Test, will play just three of the five matches in the series. With a five-day gap before the following match, captain Shubman Gill and team management will soon re-evaluate Bumrah’s fitness and availability, but it is highly likely that he will be rested for Edgbaston.

During the post-match press conference, India’s new Test captain said: “It’s definitely a match-by-match decision. We’ve got a good break after this match, so once we reach Birmingham and assess the wicket, we’ll decide whether he plays or not.”

Who Replaces Bumrah for the Second Test?

With Bumrah, it is most likely that he will miss the match, the Indian team is considering three likely substitutes.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh is considered the favorite. Though yet to earn a Test cap, he has played decently in other formats of the games. His left-arm swing and capacity to swing the ball provide variety and depth to India’s bowling attack.

Akash Deep

Akash Deep, who has played seven Tests already, is an older choice. He has 15 wickets at an average of 35.2, and useful lower-order batting ability, and could mitigate India’s vulnerabilities at the end of their order exposed in the first Test.

Nitish Reddy

Nitish Reddy, a talented all-rounder, brings equilibrium. While not a first-line seamer, he can swing the ball and be used as a partnership-breaker. His presence may mean rebalancing the bowling unit of the team and may mean dropping Shardul Thakur unless supporting a strike pacer.
