The West Indies cricket team will travel to India for a limited-overs series versus the ‘Men in Blue,’ which will include three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Desmond Haynes, the West Indies selector, also lavished praise on Roach, stating that the speedster is one of the premier pace bowlers at present. Haynes also shed light on Bonner’s pick, stating that the batsman had really progressed.
“Kemar Roach is one of our leading fast bowlers and we believe we need bowlers upfront to get early wickets, and Kemar, with an economy rate of five, is certainly good enough to play. Over the last few years, Nkrumah Bonner’s cricket has come on leaps and bounds and we believe he should be given an opportunity to play in the 50-over format,” said Desmond Haynes.
Desmond Haynes also stated that the West Indies need to get to the point where there is a contest for multiple roles on the team. Haynes finished by saying that the team decided is a strong one and that this journey to India would be definitely helpful for the ‘Men in Maroon’ for 2023, 50-over World Cup.
“We want to have competition for places. We want to reach a stage where we have a lot of players fighting for positions. We want to broaden the pool of players we have to choose from. The team we have selected is a very good side and we are looking at this tour as part of the preparations for the World Cup in India in 2023,” concluded Haynes.
