Virat Kohli Sets Eyes on Sachin Tendulkar’s Massive Record in Upcoming ODI Series Against Sri Lanka

IND VS SL: After a short break the star batter Virat Kohli is all set to return to the Indian team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The former Indian captain has his eyes set on several records in the upcoming three-match series. The 34-year-old returned to form in the 50-over format with a sublime century against Bangladesh in the third ODI last year.

With the three-game series beginning on Tuesday. Kohli is one century short of matching batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most home One Day International centuries. The 34-year-old has smashed a number of Master Blasters records. But given Tendulkar’s magnificence, there are still many more for him to break.

During his brilliant ODI career, Tendulkar scored 20 hundred in 164 home games. While Kohli is right behind him with 19 tonnes in 101 ODIs, the batting prodigy’s most recent home century came against Australia in March 2019.

Kohli has also has a chance to pip Tendulkar’s tally of most centuries against Sri Lanka in ODIs. The two batting legends are currently tied at the top with 8 centuries each. The 34-year-old enjoys batting against Lanka as his one of the best ODI knocks -133* came against them in 2012 at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. He has so far scored 2220 runs against Sri Lanka in 47 matches at an astonishing average of 60. While Tendulkar scored 3113 runs in 84 matches against the neighbouring nation.

In the forthcoming series, Kohli will pay particular attention to one more record. The master of batting has 12471 runs in 265 ODIs so far.In his career and needs just 180 runs to break into the top 5 players all-time in ODI runs. Mahela Jayawardene, a former Sri Lankan captain and batting great, is now ahead of him in the standings with 12650 runs scored in 448 ODIs. With 18426 runs in 463 ODIs, Tendulkar now holds the record, and it will be extremely difficult for Kohli to pass him.
