India did not have the best start as they were stranded at 81 for four. It was only Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya who excelled with the bat and got India to amass a score of 169 for six. Karthik blasted 55 off just 27 balls, while Hardik hit 46 off 31 balls as the pair combined 65 runs for the fifth wicket. Most of India’s lineup struggled on an inconsistent bouncy surface until Hardik and Karthik teamed came together. Hardik went after the spinners and slower balls, while Karthik went after anything with width. They helped India reach a competitive total, but one that they may have deemed slightly below par at the midway point.

For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi grabbed two wickets with Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, Dwaine Pretorius, and Keshav Maharaj taking one wicket each. It looked like a sincere effort from visitors as a score below 170 looked quite chasable with their batting lineup but India had something else in mind.

In response, South Africa’s batting line-up was unable to adjust to the pitch’s pace or India’s bowling and was removed for their lowest T20I total of 87. They had one 20-run partnership but crumbled after their captain, Temba Bavuma, retired with an elbow injury. They lost their final five wickets for just 13 runs. Only three of their batters reached double digits. What we saw was a classic South Africa choke.

Except for Hardik, all of India’s bowlers gave up 5.25 runs per over or less. For the team, seamer Avesh Khan stood out with his brilliant match-winning figures. In the final over of the powerplay, he dismissed Dwaine Pretorius, who appears to have become permanent at No. 3, and then grabbed three wickets in the third over to end with career-best figures of 4 for 18. Special mention to Harshal Patel and Chahal for being economical along with taking wickets.

Indian has leveled the series 2-2. The Final T20 match played on Sunday will be a thriller we are all excited about. We Hope India wins the close contest and brings the series home.
