IND vs AUS Highlights 4th test Day 1

Usman Khawaja stood tall above Indian bowlers during the first day of the fourth test match between India and Australia by completing his hundred and remained not out at stumps on day 1 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Cameron Green, from the other end provided him good company for the fifth wicket as Australia completed their day one at 255 for 4.

Apart from Khawaja (104*) and Green (49*), Travis Head scored 32, while skipper Steven Smith recorded 38 runs.

Shami was the pick of the bowler for India with 2 wickets. Spin-duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bagged a wicket each.

India vs Australia Day 1 4th test Highlights

Opting to bat, Australia made a steady start and past the 60-run mark with in some time of the first session to hand Indian team some sort of headache.

India, however bounced back in the next seven overs, giving just 12 runs and took 2 wickets.

India registered its first wicket when Ravichandran Ashwin eliminated Travis Head (32), who is caught by Ravindra Jadeja at mid-on. The southpaw misdirects it right to Jadeja, who is positioned in the inner ring, as he moves down the track.

Mohammed Shami then cleaned up Marnus Labuschagne to provide India second breakthrough. Comes over the wicket to the right-handed bowler and gets a chop to knock that leg stump out of place. Going in between the bat and pad, fullish length, seam up, and darted in.

Steven Smith took 135 balls to play a knock of 38

The skipper then joined the crease, and as expected started his test best. He took too many balls to score runs and eventually out on 38 off 135 deliveries.

Steve Smith inside edges a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja onto the stumps. Smith’s expression after being let go was one of shock. Jadeja’s tenacious line and length eventually paid off. India desperately needed this wicket since the partnership was looking dangerous.

Peter Handscomb entered the space in the center. Australia needs to create a partnership from scratch.

But that wasn’t happened as the Usman-Peter duo only managed to add 19 for the fourth wicket.

Handscomb was swept away by Shami. The right-arm pacemen delivered some excellent deliveries. After being pitched, the ball slightly deviated from the ground and struck Handscomb off-stump.

Australian think tanks must be considering using only real seamers like Mitchell Starc and Green who can roll their arms over, when necessary, in light of the amount of reverse swing available on the pitch.

Usman Khawaja also went past Joe Root in the Test runs tally since January 2022 with his knock today. He is currently standing at 1531 runs across 28 innings since 2022.
