ICC World Cup Qualifier B: USA beat Jersey by 8 wickets

USA made a dream start to their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B campaign as they defeated Jersey by eight-wicket on an opening day in Bulawayo.

Jersey faced a tough start as they lost 3 wickets in the first 10 overs under the score of 50. Apart from Asa Tribe and Benjamin Ward, no other batters of Jersey showed any signs of scoring runs. Tribe played a splendid knock of 73 runs off 45 while Ward provided the late surge with a blistering 38 off 22 to help their side put 154 on board in 20 overs.

However, it wasn’t enough to beat the USA as the United States team won the game by 8 wickets with 11 balls to spare.

Earlier, the USA invited Jersey to bat first, and their decision turned out to be right when they dismissed 3 of Jersey’s main batters for just 47.

Asa Tribe, who came at no.3 to bat, continues to take the team forward from the other end, while during the 14th over of the game, Jersey again lost a wicket with Ben Stevens walked back into the pavilion after scoring just 6.

The tribe got support from Benjamin Ward then and they both added 75 runs in just 45 deliveries to help their side cross the 150 mark. The tribe remained not out at 73, while got out after scoring a quick 38 off 22 in the second last ball of their innings.

Former South African bowlers Juan Theron and Nisarg Patel bagged two wickets each for the USA.

The USA made a modest start by posting 47 on board in 6.5 before they lost their skipper Monank Patel on the last ball of the seventh over.

The pair of Steven Taylor and Aaron Jones then did an 88-run second-wicket partnership for the second wicket. Jones was dismissed after scoring 38 off 30. While Taylor remained at the cease till last and only left the field after handing his team a comprehensive win.

Taylor scored an unbeaten 101 to help the USA beat Jersey by eight-wicket.
