Next No.3 batsman for India: When we look at history the Indian team always had a big-name player at the No.3 position for the Indian squad. Now with Virat Kohli’s position in danger due to his inconsistency, it has been seen that the Indian management is considering for other options other than Virat.

KL Rahul coming back from a series of injuries is sure that KL will reclaim the opening spot alongside skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar will come down the order. There is Shubman Gill who is waiting for his chance to open the innings in the important games as he also played well recently against West Indies recently, the Indian management is trying to prepare Shubman Gill for the World Cup later in the next year.

There is another option as well for India like Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and Deepak Hooda, it would be difficult for the Indian selectors and for the skipper to choose one among these players to play at the No.3 position for the Indian side.

Suryakumar Yadav would be a better replacement for Virat at the No.3 slot as he is performing well these days, he even jumped two spots in the ICC men’s T20 rankings.

But some feel the other way, former Indian player Deep Dasgupta said that getting Rahul more batting time will be important but Gill will be Groomed for the next year’s ODI World Cup.

Even a former Indian selector stated that “I think Shubman is being groomed in the right way by the Indian team management. While he has done exceedingly well in the Caribbean ODIs, what I can gauge from this team’s philosophy is to prepare players for multiple slots. Hence I feel for this particular series, Shubman might have to come in at No. 3.”

“Look, No. 3 is a proper top-order slot. He might have to come in as early as the second ball of the innings and that is as good as opening the batting. Also, my hunch is that once Rahul has enough game time under his belt, he will again bat middle-order with Gill being prepared for the 2023 event.” Source – (PTI)

It is always hard to replace a legend like Virat Kohli and only time will tell whether we will find a better player or someone similar like Virat.
