Why Miller is supporting New Zealand and not India?
David Miller has expressed disappointment over South Africa’s semifinal exit from the Champions Trophy 2025, but his frustration wasn’t just about the loss. The star batter also slammed the tight travel schedule, which saw his team board a morning flight to Dubai just hours after playing a high-stakes match against England the previous night. We look at Why Miller is supporting New Zealand and not India?
The Proteas flew to Dubai on Sunday in anticipation of playing the first semifinal. However, when it was confirmed, they would play the second semifinal instead, they had to fly back to Pakistan on Monday to face New Zealand in Lahore.
“It’s only an hour and 40 minute flight, but the fact that we had to do that was not ideal. It’s early morning, it’s after a game, and we had to fly. Then we got to Dubai at 4:00 pm. And at 7.30 am we had to come back. It doesn’t make it nice. It’s not like we flew five hours, and we had enough time to recover and recuperate, but it was not an ideal situation still,” said Miller following South Africa’s semi-final loss against New Zealand.
Indian fans counter this by pointing out that during the 2023 ODI World Cup, India had to travel extensively, playing each of their matches at a different venue, despite being the host nation.
In the much-anticipated clash, New Zealand posted a massive 362/6, thanks to centuries from Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra. Miller responded with a brilliant century of his own, but South Africa fell short at 312/9, crashing out of the tournament.
The stage is set for an electrifying final, and cricket fans worldwide eagerly await the showdown. With the final set between India and New Zealand on March 9 at the Dubai International Stadium, Miller revealed his pick for the title clash.
Despite South Africa’s heartbreak, he will be cheering for Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand, hoping they lift the coveted trophy.
