Mitchell Santner and his Stance

Mitchell Santner, New Zealand’s captain, reflected on the team’s impressive journey to the 2025 Champions Trophy final. Santner spoke about the confidence gained from putting India under pressure in earlier matches, particularly in Dubai, highlighting the effectiveness of the bowlers in taking early wickets. 

He stressed that winning the toss in the final would be crucial for their success. Santner also praised the key performances from Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra, noting their vital partnerships. Williamson’s 102 against South Africa and Ravindra’s all-round contribution played a significant role in New Zealand’s dominant display throughout the tournament.

Team India’s Statement

As India prepares for the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. Although Rohit Sharma didn’t participate in the pre-interview session, vice-captain Shubman Gill explained that the team is solely focused on winning the title, putting aside any distractions like retirement talk. He expressed excitement for his second ICC final and a desire to go one step further than in the 2023 World Cup, where their efforts fell short. 

Gill appreciated the current Indian batting lineup, calling it the best he’s been a part of, praising his teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He highlighted the depth in the lineup with players like KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Iyer, contributing immensely throughout the tournament. Speaking about the pitch, Gill assured that it would remain consistent, despite the hot weather.

On speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s future in the ODI format, Gill stressed that no discussions are happening within the team, and everyone’s focus is entirely on winning the final and claiming India’s third Champions Trophy.
