The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to start from 19th February, and the eight teams who’ll be participating in the tournament have already relesed their official sqaud for the tournament. Australia’s Challenges

Marcus Stoinis who was already a part of the Champions Trophy squad when the squads were announced early in January, Stoinis announced his surprise retirement on 6th February, 2025. Apart from his retirement, Australia also faces several injury issues in the form of, Pat Cummins who is missing the test series against Sri Lanka due to his inability to resume bowling after suffering an ankle injury.

Josh Hazlewood is also facing fitness concerns due to a hip issue, which has hindered his participation. Additionally, Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a back injury. These injuries have opened opportunities for replacements, with Beau Webster potentially stepping in for Marsh. Sean Abbott and Spencer Johnson are part of the squad as well, and Tanveer Sangha could also play a key role, providing depth in Australia’s bowling attack.

Who can replace Marcus Stoinis?

Australian staff has identified the BBL sensation Cooper Connolly as a possible replacement, he had some impactful performances in the BBL 2024-25, scoring 351 runs with an average of 50.14 and a strike rate of 131.36. His ability to perform in pressure, combined with his effective bowling, makes him a strong contender. Apart from him, Tim David is known for his finishing, scoring 254 runs in 9 innings in the BBL 2024-25, with an impressive strike rate of 177.62.

David’s impact in the lower order makes him a strong candidate as well. Mitchell Owen is another contender who stood out with 452 runs at an average of 45.20 and a strike rate of 203.60 in the BBL 2024-25. His powerful hitting, especially in crucial games, makes him a valuable asset for the Australian Squad.
