Ian Chappell Statement:

After the Coronavirus outbreak, all the sports councils have decided to arrange the games in closed doors without any spectator. Some players like this decision of the council, whereas some call it a discouraging factor which also affects the player’s performance. Regarding this, the former Australia player Ian Chappell said that a sportsman doesn’t want a crowd to perform & play well.

Recently, the first match between Australia and New Zealand was held behind closed doors. There was not a single spectator present in the stadium to cheer up their favorite players.

It was really a very uncommon sight to see an international match where no audience is there to pass the ball. The players have to go to the stand to bring back the ball. But a cricket match can never be thought without fans. But now there is no option and accept the fact. It is really necessary to take precautions against COVID-19.

 Players Don’t Need A Crowd:

The former cricketer Ian Chappell stated that during the games, a player doesn’t require spectators to perform well. In fact, it was completely a different angle to see in the match between Australia and New Zealand. The stadium was so silenced that after a player hit a boundary at SCG, he couldn’t realize that.

As per Ian Chappell, it is an unusual thing to see that international matches are getting canceled. Former, this type of thing happened at the time of World War I while matches were getting canceled in 1914 and restarted in the year 1920 and again in World War II between 1939 and 1946.

He said that “I believe that you don’t need a crowd necessarily to be spurred on; it is the excitement of a match that helps to get the juices flowing. It was a very odd silence that comes with brilliant boundaries and outstanding scores at the SCG. The good thing was the lack of unnecessary conversation over the PA system; it was nice to enjoy pure cricket where you can listen to your own think.
