David Warner has a fantastic record as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in the Indian Premier League. In 2016, he led the squad to their first championship. SRH has yet to win the title since 2016, however, they have made the playoffs in each of the following seasons: 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

However, in the 2021 edition of the T20 Championship, the franchise had a miserable season. They have only won one of their seven league games and are now in the last place on the points standings. Because of the team’s poor performance, SRH’s management made the difficult decision to fire Warner as captain and replace him with Kane Williamson.

In a surprising change of events, Warner was also dropped from the Orange Army’s playing XI in the last match of the IPL 2021 season. Warner only managed to score 193 runs with a strike rate of 110 in six games in the IPL 2021. Hyderabad will be looking for a fresh start now that the IPL has been moved to the United Arab Emirates. However, Warner’s availability for the UAE leg is in doubt because Australia has an international cricket match scheduled at the same time.
