The IPL 2022 mega auction created many overnight millionaires. It threw in a lot of surprises. Teams who had deep pockets were able to secure the players of their choice. They were able to stave off competition especially when it came to high-profile players. Here are Players Who Got Above 1000% Hike in IPL 2022.

A team like Mumbai Indians ended up spending INR 31.5 crores on just 3 players. They just had 48 crores to spend and invested two-thirds of it into these three players. Few of the players had a huge windfall in salaries. Their year-on-year growth is insane.

#5 Wanindu Hasaranga [2050%]

He is one of the best bowlers in the T20I format. Hasaranga is a proven match-winner. He is a handy batsman too. Hasaranga is someone who is always up for a fight. He is arguably Sri Lanka’s best player in the T20s. Hasaranga showed his class in the T20 World Cup 2021. His confidence is contagious.

He represented RCB last season too for a couple of games. Expect him to get a longer run this season. RCB didn’t mind paying him INR 10.75 crores which is 2050% more as compared to last year [INR 50 lacs].

#4 Devdutt Padikkal [3775%]

Devdutt Padikkal had fine two seasons with RCB. He provided a lot of stability at the top. Paddikal got RCB off to good starts almost always. He is excellent against spin, a facet that aids him stay in the game longer. It was widely expected that RCB will retain him. But owing to the retention dynamics, it became impossible for RCB to retain him.

He was expected to fetch a good number in the mega auction. But his eventual price surprised everyone. The Rajasthan Royals were keen to buy Paddikal. They paid a whopping sum of INR 7.75 crores to acquire Paddikal. He ended up getting a jump of 3775% as his last year’s salary was a mere INR 20 lacs.

#3 Tim David [4025%]

Tim David is one of the most high-profile T20 freelancers. He set the BBL on fire with his exploits. David continued his brilliant run in PSL too smashing bowlers for fun. He has an overall career strike rate of 159. David walks in as a finisher for every franchise team he represents. RCB bought him for a measly sum of INR 20 lacs last season. But they had to release him ahead of the auctions. Mumbai sensed an opportunity to acquire him. They went all-out to hire David and shelled out INR 8.25 crores. He received a pay jump of 4025%. 

#2 Prasidh Krishna [4900%]

The stocks of Prasidh Krishna have been on the rise ever since Virat Kohli spoke glowingly about him. He is a tall fast bowler who bangs the pitch hard. Krishna has the tendency to trouble the best of batsmen with his hard lengths. He has been a constant part of India’s squad for quite some time now.

His player of the series exploits against West Indies came at just the right time. He went on to receive a paycheque of INR 10 crores from Rajasthan. Krishna’s annual salary jumped by 4900% as he drew INR 20 lacs last year.

#1 Harshal Patel [5275%]

Harshal Patel was RCB’s standout player in IPL 2021. RCB had traded Patel from Delhi ahead of the 2021 season. He ended up with the purple cap equalling Dwayne Bravo’s league record of 32 wickets in a season. Patel soon went on to make his India debut. He was impressed in both the games he played.

Patel was one of the most sought-after bowlers in the auction. Teams staged a bidding war for Harshal Patel. RCB managed to fight off competition as they paid INR 10.75 crores to buy him back. Patel whose IPL contract last year was a mealy INR 20 lacs, went on to record the highest year-on-year percentage growth. It stands at a mind-boggling [5275%].
