Hardik was chosen as skipper for the 1st time in the Indian T20 League when he was signed by the Gujarat Titans from the 5 time title holders Mumbai Indians (MI).

Hardik was retained by the Titans for INR 15 crore and also was promoted to captain before the 2022 mega auction. Whereas the all-rounder from Baroda seems to have no prior experience as a captain in the IPL, he has previously been an important component of Mumbai Indians to secure the wins.
According to Solanki, Hardik’s experiences and learnings from MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, as well as Rohit Sharma, will benefit him to captain the Gujarat Titans in the nearing IPL 2022. The Titans will begin their IPL 2022 season on March 28 against the other new team, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), at the Wankhede Stadium, which has been Hardik’s home in the IPL for so many years.

Hardik Pandya will be the center of attraction when the IPL 2022 kicks off on March 26 because the India all-rounder hasn’t played competitive cricket since the 2021 T20 World Cup. He also opted out of the current Ranji Trophy competition.
“We see in Hardik the qualities that can turn him into a successful and very fine captain. We have spoken a couple of times about his track record as far as winning IPL titles is concerned,” told Solanki.
“He has been part of our leadership group and has taken a lot of learnings from other captains like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. He will use all that learning in developing himself as a captain and will be well backed by the support staff,” he said.
Hardik’s failure to perform with the bowling has become a big concern since the all-rounder hardly bowled for the Indian side in the T20 World Cup last year. The Baroda standout has been sidelined by back injuries, which have prohibited him to handle the ball.
Though Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra stated that the franchise would be delighted to have Hardik as a complete batsman, Solanki stated that Hardik has been getting fit to serve in much more than one aspect for the squad in IPL 2022. Furthermore, Solanki highlighted the need of being patient with Hardik and allowing him to return to his optimum.
The IPL 2022 would be important in deciding Hardik’s prospects of participating in the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year, as demand for the all-rounders is high, it will be not that easy to secure the spot.
“Hardik is working extremely hard in all aspects of his game, from the rehabilitation and recovery point of view. He is conscious that he has to get up to speed with batting, bowling and fielding He is on his path to recovery and playing a full part but we have to be patient with the demands,” Solanki added.
