Born in Jamaica on September 21, 1979, Christopher Henry Gayle has been representing the West Indies in international cricket since 1999. Gayle is known for being a destructive batsman and is largely recognized as one of the greatest batsmen to have ever played Twenty20 cricket. He was a key member of the West Indies teams that won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2004, the ICC World Twenty20 in 2012, and the ICC World Twenty20 in 2016.

Chris Gayle, the “Universe Boss,” turns 43 today (September 21). Gayle, a West Indian cricket legend, is still active in competitive cricket around the world. Gayle is one of the greatest batters in history, with 7214 Test runs and 10480 ODI runs. Gayle won two T20 World Cups and amassed 1627 runs at a strike rate of 142.84 while playing in the shortest format.

Although he hasn’t officially retired from international cricket, he is not likely to add to his record of 103 Tests, 301 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. Gayle has amassed 4,950 runs in 140 IPL games, including 631 fifty-plus runs, for an astounding strike rate of 149.45.

Top five knocks:

175 Runs from 66 Balls against Pune Warriors in 2013 IPL season

151 Runs from 62 Balls against Kent in 2015

146 Runs from 69 Balls against Dhaka Dynamites in 2017

117 Runs from 57 Balls against South Africa in 2007

90 Runs from 41 Balls against South Africa in 2015

In his third year with RCB, Gayle stormed against Pune Warriors in the league stage game, smashing an unbeaten 175 in 2013. RCB scored 263/5, and he concluded with a score of 175 off 66 balls after reaching the three-figure mark in just 30 balls. He continues to hold the IPL records for both the fastest century and the best score in T20 cricket.

There are no surprises in this. Gayle has struck 326 sixes in the league, making him the cleanest cricket ball hitter. Following Gayle is AB de Villers, who has 212 major hits. It’s anticipated that the West Indies great will continue to hold the record for a very long time.

On this special occasion, let’s wish Chris Gayle a happy birthday, also pray for his well-being, and send him our best wishes for the future.
