Masood’s Early Life
He was born in Kuwait on 14 October 1989, where his father was a banker. The family departed for their native Pakistan after the Gulf War began and the Iraqis invaded Kuwait.
He attended Stamford School in Lincolnshire and Durham University before returning to the UK with his parents to further his studies in economics. Through a distance learning course at Loughborough University, he studied management and sports sciences.

Shan Masood, a reliable and proficient left-hand opener, was able to make the international team by routinely outperforming other youth cricketers. Masood the alternative Pakistan resorted to in the Test series against South Africa in the UAE since they were unable to put together a reliable opening partnership.
How cricket became a passion for Shan
Masood is identified as a potential star by Pakistan’s talent scouts at a young age; he was chosen for the U-15 Asia Cup in 2002 when he was just 13 years old after winning Aaqib Javed’s favor. Masood scored 54 for Karachi in his first-class debut match in 2007 and combined with Asad Shafiq for 154 runs for the first wicket.
Later, he continued to perform well in England, particularly in 2009 for Stamford School, where he set a school record with 1237 runs at an average of 103. Additionally, he participated in three first-class matches for Durham University, competing against players like Liam Plunkett, Graham Onions, and Ajmal Shehzad.
Early Success
Masood enjoyed a stellar home season in Pakistan in 2012–13, hitting 543 runs at a 54.30 average. He later got called up to bat first in the Test series against South Africa. Alastair Cook is Masood’s idol, which says something about the type of batsman he aspires to be.
Test Debut
Masood scored 75 against South Africa in his Test debut in October 2013. In July 2015, at Pallekele, he made his debut century against Sri Lanka. Partnering with Younis Khan for 242 runs as Pakistan chased down 382. On July 23, 2016, against England at Old Trafford, Masood, a part-time medium-pace bowler, made his Test cricket debut. He delivered a no-ball on his first delivery. Masood scored his third Test century against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi in February 2020.
Against Australia on March 22, 2019, he made his ODI debut for Pakistan. He got his second Test century in December 2019 at Karachi’s National Stadium against Sri Lanka’s visiting team. He also reached the milestone of 1,000 runs in Test cricket during the same game.
