Happy Birthday Quinton de Kock – One Of World’s Top Wicket-Keeper Batsmen

Happy Birthday Quinton de Kock

Current South African cricketer Quinton de Kock was born on 17 December 1992 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The explosive wicket-keeper batman’s talent was spotted when he attended King Edward VII High School. In the 2012 U-19 Cricket World Cup, which was held in Australia, he became the highest run-getter for the South African side. The 26-year-old also impressed in that tournament with his glovework behind the stumps.

He made his T20I debut against New Zealand in December 2012, replacing AB de Villiers who took a break. De Kock did not make much of an impact in that series and also against Sri Lanka.

He was dropped in July 2013. After de Kock was recalled in November 2013 to the national side, he scored his first ODI century against Pakistan. Only a month later, he scored three consecutive ODI centuries against India to announce himself in a big way.

De Kock is the fastest South African to score 1,000 runs in ODIs. He also made his mark in T2O format, scoring his maiden half-century in the 2016 T20 World Cup. He was South Africa’s highest run-scorer in that tournament and it also earned de Kock a place in the ICC T20 World XI.

Quinton De Kock career

He made Test debut against Aussies in February 2014. Quinny, as he is also known, did not shine in the longer format until two years later till he scored a maiden Test century against England.

In the 2019 ICC World Cup as well, he became his country’s highest scorer with 305 runs in eight games.

Though he made his debut in IPL in 2013 when he was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad, he shifted to Mumbai Indians in 2019 and played some key innings as the franchise won the tournament. De Kock represents Titans in MSL.

After the retirement of AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla, he along with Faf du Plessis is one of the most crucial batsmen for his country in all the three formats. De Kock is renowned for his big-hitting and is, therefore, a crowd-pleaser.
