WPL 2023: Chasing 207 in the Inaugural game of the WPL, All out at 64

Although Meghana and Beth Mooney started for the team, the Gujarat Giants were unable to have very successful innings. Once the openers were dismissed, the wicket-falling momentum slowed down at Dayalan Hemalatha, causing the innings to go slowly. Also gave the crease some time to settle.

On the opposite end, Brunt made a huge surge to secure 2 wickets, followed by Ishaque and Kerr, who each secured 2 wickets for the team. Both innings were won by the Mumbai Indians team.

Dayalan Hemalatha and Monica Patel continue to be the Giants’ top scorers in the early going. The Gujrat Giants lost the first game of the WPL 2023 by 64 runs.

WPL 2023: Mumbai knocks a giant of 207 in 20 overs in the opening of WPL

Mumbai had a fantastic final day and put up a huge score. After being put into the batting order, they suffered an early blow from Yastika Bhatia. Then Natalie Sciver and Hayley Matthews banded together to stitch together a 54-run stand.

They did lose both batsmen quickly after each other, but Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr immediately got going and gave Mumbai a commanding lead. Amelia Kerr, Pooja Vastrakar, and Issy Wong helped Mumbai maximise in the back end of the innings despite the loss of Harmanpreet Kaur in the 17th over.

Saika Ishaque’s 4 wickets haul took Mumbai Indians in the winning zone.

Next Clash of the WPL will be Royal Challengers vs Delhi Capitals at Brabourne Stadium on 5th March, 2023
