Gavaskar: India And Australia Can Swap T20 World Cup Hosting

Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar has advised that India and Australia can swap the T20 world cup hosting if possible as doubts over the staging of the T20 world cup this year by Australia grow in the wake of corona pandemic.

India To Host T20 World Cup In 2021

Australia is supposed to hold the T20 world cup this year from October 18th to November 15th. But there are doubts surrounding the happening of the tournament though the International Cricket Council (ICC) repeatedly said that it is confident that the flagship event will go ahead as planned.

The reason for the uncertainty is that the number of corona infected cases world-wide has not slowed down yet.

Gavaskar talking to a news channel suggested a possible solution that India, which will host T20 world cup next year, can swap the hosting of the event with Australia, where there is a ban on entry of foreigners until September 30 because of the deadly virus threat, if both sides agree.

“As we all know, Australia has barred foreigners from entering the country until September 30. The tournament starts mid-October so it is looking difficult at the moment,” Gavaskar said.

Asia Cup Should Be Moved To December From September: Gavaskar

“Next year the T20 World Cup is in India. If India and Australia come to an agreement and the COVID-19 curve in India flattens out, they can swap. It can be held in India this October-November and next year in Australia around the same time.”The IPL too has been indefinitely postponed but there is a possibility of it being held in September.

Gavaskar also believes that if IPL is held before the T20 world cup players can get enough time to practice and added that Asia Cup which is expected to take place in September should be postponed to December as UAE, where the competition will be held, will be less hot in December than in September.
