It was a question mark for whom to be chosen among Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar for India’s No.4. When asked to former Indian Coach, Anshuman Gaekwad, he picked up Kedar Jadhav as India’s No.4 who was out of the options. This was to replace Shikar Dhawan who is injured and was ruled out of the World Cup.
“Kedar Jadhav is a smart cricketer. He is a busy player and can rotate the strike. He can also play his shots. I think he should bat at no. 4.” – Gaekwad said.
Gaekwad also told his second priority after Jadhav would be the wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik.
“The other option is Dinesh Karthik. He has the experience and is a proven finisher. He likes to take his time at the crease and that is important when India is in trouble. You need someone who can stem the rot along with Virat (Kohli),” – he said.
Speaking about Pant, he said he was not his choice to be India’s No.4 batsman.
“He is certainly not my no.4. He is a good striker of the ball. But at the position, you need someone who can stay at the crease. I don’t think I will play him at that position.” – he added.
