The Jharkhand cricket administrator and former BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary passed away due to heart attack early this morning in Ranchi.

Amitabh Choudhary was 62 years old and was also a former IPS officer, he was the IGP in the Jharkhand Police and also served as the chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission, and he retired last month.

In 2004 Amitabh entered into the cricket administration and served as the president of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association for more than 10 years, he was also appointed as the team manager for the Indian team during the tour of Zimbabwe.

Amitabh Choudhary also served as the BCCI’s joint-secretary when Anurag Thakur was the BCCI president from 2013 to 2015, during 2017-19 Amitabh Choudhary was appointed to the Committee of Administrators. Later he became an integral part of the BCCI cricket committees. He also played an important role in representing and developing East Zone cricket.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association constructed its state-of-the-art stadium in Ranchi when Amitabh was the president of the board.

During his time in the BCCI council, Amitabh Choudhary faced his toughest phase when the Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli clash ended up in Kumble’s exit as India’s head coach in 2017 June.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren on his Twitter handle post his condolence by tweeting in Hindi saying “Deeply saddened by the news of sudden passing away of former JPSC chairman Shri Amitabh Chaudhary. Former IPS officer Amitabh Ji played a significant role in the development of cricket in the state. May his soul rest in peace and condolences and strength to his family in his hour of grief.”

Amitabh played a crucial role in getting the first-class status for Jharkhand cricket and once the first-class status was given to the Jharkhand cricket board Mahendra Singh Dhoni shifted from playing with Bihar to Jharkhand until the end of his career in domestic formats.
