England’s 16-man squad, captained by captain Ben Stokes, has added many surprise picks to the team that will play India in five Test matches beginning next month.
England has selected Shoaib Bashir, a 20-year-old off-spinner from Somerset, for the five-match Test series against India.
Left-arm spinner Jack Leach and batter and vice-captain Ollie Pope have returned to the squad following injuries.
Pope injured his shoulder in the second Ashes Test of the summer at Lord’s, while Leach was sidelined for the entire series owing to a back stress fracture.

Ben Stokes to lead England in India
Ben Stokes will be leading the team after having surgery on his left knee after England’s 50-over cricket World Cup run. He, however, will bat only during the tour.
England, who was seen struggling in the ODI World Cup last month and then lost an ODI series West Indies, has a different approach while playing in Tests, famously known as Bazball, but the biggest question here is will the Bazball work in India?

Will the Bazball work in India?
England’s Bazball style proved to be an unexpected success in Test cricket over the past 18 months. The team under coach Brendon McCullum has won 13 of their 18 test games.
England will play India for the second time after the introduction of Bazball, England had won the first-ever Bazball match against India at home last year by seven wickets.
Things will be different in India, as the English team will have to tackle the spinning track, and their coach McCullum has expressed concern about the problems they may encounter during the tour to India.
“We have got a huge challenge against a very good Indian team in five tests in India. I am excited about it because you want to test yourself against the best side and I genuinely believe that India is the best in their own condition. It is going to be a good challenge for us. If we have success then fabulous, if we don’t then I know we will go down in the style that we want to go down.” Coach McCullum said during the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India.
