The 36-year-old Announced His Retirement From All Forms Of Cricket Back In 2018:
AB de Villiers, the South African former batsman has been the town’s talk for a long time now. There is common talk that he will soon return from his retirement and play again in the South African team. In addition, he’s been expected to be available for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. Yet the tournament itself is in doubt because of the Coronavirus pandemic, and he is not in a mood to commit anything.
In 2018, De Villiers declared his retirement from all forms of cricket. The cricket fans were sad, however, he was playing in England in the World Cup 2019, but that wasn’t the single case. He was kept playing various T20 cricket leagues worldwide, including BBL, MSL, IPL, and others.
In the latest interview, AB de Villiers said if the T20 World Cup was postponed to 2021, the situation could change unexpectedly. For the moment, due to his bad experiences from the past when he was really wounded, he does not want to do anything about his recovery. The 33-year-old added the fact that he made a mistake in taking some steps that he was not entirely sure of.
“Yeah, things could go a little different if the T20 World Cup is postponed until 2021, I don’t know. To be truthful, it’s something that I don’t want to commit because of previous experiences… I was very hurt at the time. In the past, I was really hurt by agreeing to something I wasn’t 100% positive… not talking to the right people at the right time as I wanted to, “said AB de Villiers.
AB de Villiers recalls a conversation with Mark Boucher:
He also remembered a question that he was asked by Mark Boucher during MSL 2019. Whether he still you have an international story to tell any cricket left in him that can support South Africa. He cited some reasons involved, so he didn’t contribute as much as he should have done.
“He asked me where this came from and why I love the game so much. He asked me, ‘Doesn’t that mean you still have a story to say at an international level?’ I replied, ‘I never closed the book I always wanted to play.’
“I have had other challenges to tackle from a personal point of view in the last 3-4 years. I always loved to play cricket and always liked to strike the cricket pitch. There were also other factors associated with me not contributing to the sport as much as I should have, “he added.
