Sourav Ganguly, Jay Shah Attend ACC Board Meeting

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) executive board has delayed a decision regarding the Asia Cup T20 of this year in the middle of the speculations that might be rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament is postponed in the month of September and while the event is the turn of Pakistan Cricket Board to host, it will be shifted to another nation, and if it occurs, India’s travel to Pakistan is not possible.

It is now purely understood that the ACC will wait for the decision of ICC regarding the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia in the October to November window before taking any decision on the Asia Cup.

After the meeting on Monday, an ACC press release stated that “…the ACC is giving more priority on the importance of the Asia Cup 2020. Considering the consequences and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will find out the possible options for venues for the 2020 Asia Cup and it was decided to take the last decision in this meantime.”

The board meeting of ACC was chaired by Nazmul Hasan Papon, board president of Bangladesh Cricket Board and it was the first official meeting attended by Sourav Ganguly, BCCI president, and Jay Shah, official secretary.

A senior official of the Asian Cricket Council said that there were consultations about the postponement but there is no compromise as far as the next dates were concerned.

In the discussion, other topics were about the involvement of ACC in the 2022 Asian Games in China also discussed. It stated, “The Board was also talked of the progress and the status of the involvement of ACC with the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.”
