Watch: “Sorcery” of Mitchell Starc Bemuses Batsman After Ball Strikes ‘Bat-Pad-Stumps’

Mitchell Starc took social media by storm when a video went viral of him dismissing Western Australia’s Josh Philippe during a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney on Tuesday.

The fast delivery of Mitchell Starc, out of nowhere, took an inside edge of the willow of Josh Philippe before catching the batsmen on both his pads and knocking off the bails. “Off the bat, both pads, and onto the stumps! Starc somehow gets through the gate of Philippe,” Cricket.com.au captioned the video of Mitchell Starc’s impressive delivery on Twitter.

Acknowledging the incredible incident, the International Cricket Council (ICC) shared the video and asked: “What kind of sorcery is this, Mitchell Starc?”

Twitter:

Starc hit the 14th over to give a breakthrough to New South Wales in Sydney’s 10th Marsh Sheffield Shield Match.

Although Philippe lost his wicket for 15 runs, with D’Arcy Short and Shaun Marsh unbeaten on 39 and 25 respectively, Western Australia managed to score 85/1 before stumps on Day 2.

Earlier, Steve Smith and Moises Henriques had a magnificent 91-run knock to post 444/8 on New South Wales before declaring their innings.

Smith recorded the slowest-ever century of his first-class career with 103 runs off 295 balls, including nine boundaries and two sixes.

The former captain of Australia lost his wicket when trying to play a top-cut off a bouncer from Marcus Stoinis.

Smith took 290 deliveries in first-class cricket for his first-class cricket.

Praising Smith’s hard-earned knock, Cricket Australia tweeted, “Remarkable! A week after his jaw-dropping T20 knock against Pakistan, Steve Smith has scored the slowest first-class century of his career #SheffieldShield”.

On the other hand, Henriques scored a 116-ball 91 and with 12 boundaries and two sixes decorated it.

Daniel Hughes, Daniel Solway, and Pat Cummins contributed with a half-century each in NSW’s confident total.
