Shubman Gill’s Ton Helps India A Keep In Strong Position

Shubman Gill Scored An Unbeaten Century; In Response To The Hosts’ Declaring At 390-9.

In response to the host’s declaration at 390-9, Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten century as India A ended Day 3 of the second unofficial test against New Zealand A at Lincoln on 234-1.

When the score was on 276-5 the hosts resumed the day. Day 2 was completely washed out due to unfortunate rain. A century was enough from Daryl Mitchell to push the hosts up to the 400-run mark before they declared.

Dane Cleaver also scored a half-century and there was some strong resistance from the lower order to help Mitchell notch up his first-class ton and hold himself in the lengthiest format in contention for a national call-up.

India A made a quick start in the second innings as they scored 111 in just 21 overs, with openers looking for offensive shots from Hanuma Vihari and Gill to play.

Vihari Hit A Half-Century Before Being Dismissed

Vihari trapped himself for a half-century before being dismissed for 59 runs, stuck behind Blair Tickner. That was the only performance the hosts had experienced, however.

Cheteshwar Pujara joined Gill in the middle and they two batted with full confidence in the rest of the day out. Gill will bring up his century before the end of the day, with Pujara taking up a half-century (52 *) as well.

Gill and Prithvi Shaw are struggling for one slot alongside Mayank Agarwal at the top of the order with Rohit Sharma injured and off the Test squad.

A win in this match seems impossible with a whole day washed out but the Indian team management would have been satisfied with the likes of Vihari, Gill, and Pujara getting to spend some time in the middle.

The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat and Vijay Shankar are aiming to do the same on Test’s final day.
