Shikhar Dhawan is concentrating on a fresh start after recovering from injuries in 2019. In the New Year, he wants to become a more impressive batsman in his quest to help India lift the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
The opening batsman of the India team:
In 2019, he met with a thumb injury and, therefore, he was in and out of the team and did not have good scores.
After the last year’s ICC ODI World Cup, the left-handed opener was forced to return home after a thumb fracture. Dhawan missed the home T20 series against West Indies. In December, at the time of the Ranji Trophy match, he hurt his knee, which kept him out of cricket.
I know my process is very strong-Dhawan:
“Last year I had lots of injuries but that’s a part and package of our work. It’s a new year, and I am looking forward to a new start and It’s gonna go a long way,’’ an occasional right-arm-break bowler, Dhawan told to ‘bcci.tv’.
“I am looking forward to scoring lots of runs for the team and for myself and be a more stunning player, win matches for my team and win the World Cup,” he said, clarifying on his goals for 2020. In fact, he was the leading run-scorer of India.
Australia will host the ICC T20 World Cup from October 18 to November 15 this year.
“I am always positive, I always take things in a positive manner. Injuries are quite natural, so I just take it in my stamp. I don’t make trouble about it. I make sure that I always stay in a positive set and helps things to cure very quickly”, the 34-year-old dasher said when someone asked how difficult it was for him to be in and out of the team.
Dhawan, who is playing in the Indian team for the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, believes the ongoing series is a great opportunity for him to be back among runs.
“I am eagerly looking forward to this series. It’s a good opportunity for me to come and express myself and score huge runs,” he said.
“I am always developing my game, developing a new pattern of shorts. I always make sure that do my preparation well and come on the ground and enjoy myself,” Dhawan added.
The first T20 of the series against Sri Lanka on Sunday night was abandoned without even a ball being bowled. The second T20 match of the series will be held on Tuesday in Indore.
