Ashwin Spoke About The Series With Pujara During An Instagram Live:
In the past four years, India has been “the side to beat” at home for test cricket. India has won ten series on the run on the home ground and dominated most of its opponents under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. But one series was different from other as in 2017 India was tremendously scared by the Australians led by Steve Smith.
After losing the first test in Pune from the Aussies, India was again in trouble with a total of fewer than 200 runs in the second test in Bengaluru. Indian bowlers needed to stand up and deliver, especially spinners. But they were disappointed by Australian opener Matt Renshaw.
The Australians eventually managed to lead the match for the first time. Ravichandran Ashwin spoke about the series with Cheteshwar Pujara during an Instagram Live session when he moved to Renshaw during his first innings of the Bengaluru Test.
“Nathan Lyon had a disturbance but avoided spinning at the end of the first day. It’s been rainy, “said Ravichandran Ashwin.
“There were quite a few suggestions made for me by Anil Kumble Bhai. But I told him we have to be careful because nothing is going on. ‘Yeah, yeah! You have to do that, I do not put any pressure on you. ‘ said Anil Bhai.
All of a sudden I got really angry: Ravichandran Ashwin
“The next day when I began bowling over the stumps to Warner and Renshaw. When I was bowling to Renshaw, a few balls have gone here and there. He had this smirky look so as to indicate that they were on top of the game.
“I suddenly got really angry because I didn’t get the wickets and I told him ‘you better not defend and make runs because if you guys don’t, in the 4th innings you won’t make 100 runs. I was angry and said it but eventually panned out.”
As Ashwin had told Renshaw, India returned strong during the second innings and Ashwin ran the Australians in the fourth innings to collect 6 wickets in order to help India tie the series. The hosts would carry on to clinch the Test series 2-1 finally.
