India vs Afghanistan Series Schedule
Team India is set to make their final appearance in the T20Is before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to be played in June 2024.
India to play a three-match series against Afghanistan, starting January 11. There has been a lot of rumors around the corner that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not play the T20Is anymore, but those were just the rumors as both Rohit and Kohli are part of team India’s squad for the Afghanistan series.
Rohit is once again ready to lead India in the 3-match series, while Virat Kohli will provide the team his anchor style support as usual.
KL Rahul, who was part of India’s all three-format teams are not the part of the series. While Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav both will miss the series due to injuries.
Speedster Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj also miss the T20I series alongside veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as India will have to play a test series against England right after the Afghanistan series.
Notably, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has not been featured in any of India’s game in the last 14 months.
They played their last T20 game in the semi-final clash against England on November 10, 2022, which India lost.
But their selection right before the T20 World Cup 2024 is a sign that both the senior players are part of the scheme for the mega event later this year.
Youngsters Jitesh Sharma, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, who are part of team India in couple of series in last 2 months, will get the chance to play under Rohit Sharma for the first time on international level.
Sanju Samson is selected as the wicketkeeper batter for the series alongside Jitesh Sharma. While Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin bowling department.
