Rohit Sharma’s glorious batting display in his new Test cricket style as an opener continued for India in the 2nd innings as the swashbuckling batsman added another feature to his cap after he came out to open the 1st Test against South Africa in Vizag on Day 4 on Saturday.
During the Innings, Dane Peidt was hit for a huge six that was the third of the innings and ninth of the match in the 20th over the second innings. Rohit Sharma became the only batsman in test history for India to hit the most number of sixes. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who hit eight sixes at Lucknow in 1994, improved the record earlier.
Rohit Sharma now holds the record of most sixes in a match in all three forms of the game with his 9th six in Vizag.
Test: Rohit Sharma 9* v SA Vizag 2019/20
ODI: Rohit Sharma 16 v Aus Bengaluru 2013
T20I: Rohit Sharma 10 v SL Indore 2017
Rohit Sharma was the biggest talk point ahead of the first test in Vizag for his new role in the red-ball cricket. Nevertheless, Rohit had put many of those questions to rest with his magnificent 176 in the first innings in his debut outing as a test opener.
After being the fourth Indian batsman to achieve a century as an opener in Test cricket in his maiden innings, Rohit Sharma went on in the second inning of the Test to score a half-century to break the record of Rahul Dravid.
Rohit Sharma also surpassed Rahul Dravid’s record for most consecutive fifty-plus scores in-home tests with his 12th fifty in Test Cricket. Around 1997 and 1998, Dravid had achieved 6 consecutive fifty-plus ratings.
Former Australian-South African cricketer Kepler Wessels was also Surpassed by Rohit Sharma to score the most runs when opening the Innings in Test cricket for the first time. Jaegers had 208 runs against England in his two innings for Australia in 1982-83, while Rohit recorded 226 (at the time this report was written) at Vizag.
