I Had The First Crack For Indian Team, Before Dhoni: Parthiv

Parthiv Patel, the former India wicketkeeper-batsman, claims he was not really unlucky to be left out of the lineup considering he started his career before MS Dhoni but also decided not to take advantage of the opportunity. let’s look at Parthiv Patel About Not Getting Enough Chances.

Parthiv Patel About Not Getting Enough Chances

MS Dhoni was the solution to Team India’s need for a long-term wicketkeeper-batsman in the 2000s, wearing the 3-D hat throughout his 15-year international career. Dhoni captained the side for years and also batted consistently.

In the 2000s, a number of wicketkeepers earned their Indian debuts, but none of those were able to hold on to their position for longer. Parthiv Patel, one of them, eventually lost his spot in Dhoni. Patel was expected to be India’s next fantastic thing and had previously represented India before getting his Ranji Trophy debut.

However, he was dismissed from the national team in 2004 and did not return for a long time. He performed one Test for India in 2008 before returning in 2016, two years after Dhoni’s retirement.

I was dropped because my performances were not up to the mark: Parthiv

Patel, who is currently a part of the Mumbai Indians’ management team, recently stated that he wasn’t unfortunate in losing his spot to Dhoni because he was granted 19 Tests well before former India captain was called up to the national side.

“Honestly speaking, I don’t look at it that way (whether he was unlucky). I had the first crack at the Indian team, before Dhoni,” Parthiv said. “I was dropped because my performances were not up to the mark in international cricket,” Patel said in an Interaction.

“Then MS Dhoni came in. I can’t say that I was unlucky because I did not get to play more. I had already played 19 Test matches before getting dropped. I also cannot say that I did not get enough opportunities. 19 Test matches is a lot.”

Because Dhoni was also the team captain, no wicketkeeper-batsman could join the national team until he was already a member of the team. During Dhoni’s active days, Patel, Saha, Dinesh Karthik, and Rishabh Pant all joined the national team, but they only played as specialist batsmen.

Patel played two T20Is, 38 ODIs, and 25 Tests for India, and was a part of the very first Indian side to win a Test series in Australia. In Test cricket, he scored 934 runs, 736 in ODI cricket, and 36 in Twenty20 cricket. In the IPL, he also worked with Dhoni.
