I Have The Ability To Play All Formats:
Many batsmen are classified for a specific format of the game depending on their playing style or strike rate. Many players like Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara have suffered from this issue since they tagged as ‘red-ball specialists’. Consequently, they did not get the chance to display their other side in the game’s shortest style as well.
The same is true for Hanuma Vihari named the ‘Test Specialist’ of India. Vihari was bought in the 2019 IPL by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 Crore but for this season he didn’t find any buyers. The 26-year-old had kept his base value in IPL 2020 at INR 50 lakh. However, Vihari has confirmed that he is happy to be recognized as a Test expert and despite being rejected by franchises in the IPL 2020 auction, he has no regrets.
“I realized you can not do anything about it because things are not under your control. No regrets on that. I’m not disappointed about IPL auction that I was not taken,’ Vihari said on the show ‘Homerun with AV’ during an Instagram conversation.
“My attention has always been on Tests from an early age and I’m glad that I’ve achieved whatever I did,” Vihari said.
Hanuma Vihari also lauds Virat Kohli’s work ethics:
Vihari also praised the work ethic and preparation of present India skipper Virat Kohli. Vihari added that he is able to do anything for his team, and support by playing long innings while he plays on the field of the away. “The training is the best part of Kohli’s game. I learned that from him. His job ethic is fantastic too, “he added.
“I am ready to do anything for my team. Whenever I play abroad, I still tried to score runs, dig deep, and play long innings. I’m just trying to do my utmost to keep the team from dropping me, “the 26-year-old player said.
Meanwhile, Vihari claims he still has the ability to do well in certain forms after being called as effective as a Test expert. He shared that when he gets the right opportunity, he will flaunt his talent in other ways too. Vihari has scored 552 runs at a pace of 36.80 in an international career spanning over 9 Tests. The right-hander, wearing the Indian Test jersey, scored a century and four half-centuries.
“Look, I can’t change what people think about you. I need to continuously score runs and those are the thoughts that come to my mind. I believe I can handle the stress and play all the formats. So for me, that is nice enough, this knowledge. If I have got the right opportunity I can do it, “Vihari said.
