Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim made a comeback to the Bangladesh side as Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 16-member squad for a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in August.
Earlier, Mushfiqur took the decision to miss the recently concluded series against West Indies to perform the Islamic hajj pilgrimage. He will also skip the three-match Twenty20 international series against Zimbabwe that will be played before the ODIs.
After fully recovering from an injury, pace bowler Hasan Mahmud, who last competed in an international match 16 months ago, was included to both the T20 and ODI squads.
Who is the captain of Bangladesh’s T20 team?
Mahmudullah Riyad, the team’s regular captain, will not play in the T20 series since he is resting. Instead, wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan will lead the team.
Bangladesh are currently high on confidence after defeating the big opponent West indies by 3-0 at their home in the recently completed ODI series, and with the experienced Mushfiqur back in the squad it will further boost their chances to create same charisma what they did in the ODIs against West Indies.
However, they lost the T20 series by 2-0, which is a cause of concern for them and with the experienced Tamim Iqbal also has taken retirement from the shortest format of the game last week, it will be interesting to see how the young brigade will perform.
The shortest format to be played on July 30, July 31 and August, while both teams will lock horns in ODI format starting on August 5, followed by 7, and 10. All the games will take place at the Harare Sports Club ground.
