“I Think David Warner Is A Deserved Winner”- Allan Border:
The Former Captain of the Australian cricket team, Allan Border has said that David Warner is well deserved to win the top cricket prize in the country, the Allan Border medal.
On Monday, Warner won the Allan Border medal. This is the third time he won this title. When the name was announced, many people have argued either the Warner deserved to win the medal or not.
The 33 years left-handed batsman had a bad time in last year’s Ashes as tried to score just 95 runs from 10 innings. But, during the home summer against Pakistan and New Zealand, Warner changed his methods of scoring runs.
The Border said that he was surprised when the final name was announced since there were some other amazing players including Pat Cummins and Steve Smith. Mitchell Starc(all-rounder), even Nathan Lyon(bowler) had a fantastic year.
Former Australian captain Allan Border has said that “Although David Warner got a number of votes even in close difference, I think he is a deserved winner. Apart from the Ashes series, he had a fantastic year, where Steve Smith was unbelievable. That is the reason, why the difference in voting was very very close.”
Border also added that “It is very difficult to select rank in Test matches against home Test matches. I have heard an argument about all that and it has also some merit. There’s no doubt about that,”.
Warner Had Won The Allan Border Medal Three Times:
“Maybe the voting system can be looked at. We’ve been going for 21 years, it’s probably time to have just a look at how votes are put together and how it’s all combined over the three, four months of the game for that final winner. Maybe it is high time to have a look at that voting system,” he added.
In the past two years, Warner had won the Allan Border medal two times in 2016 and 2017. In 2018 he was involved in the ball-tampering issue against South Africa. So he suspended for one year.
He was named as Australia’s T20I Men’s Player of the Year. We will see him next in action against South Africa in three T20I series and as many ODI series.
