Cricket is a game about mixed events in each game. In this century-old game, there have been several matches and scores which was a classic example of coincidence. The first Test match and the 100th test match between Australia and England at the MCG, the group results of Pakistan in the 1992 World Cup and 2019 World Cup.
Even in IPL, which has been active since 2008, it has several coincidences that had left its fans stunned.
Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli:
Kohli is very planned about following Tendulkar’s tips, in winning games for his country and also by comparing him in the stat columns as carefully as achievable.
There are several coincidences between the two greats at the international level from scoring first Test ton in their 14th innings to smashing their 58th global century against the same opponent and many more.
In the IPL Kohli against Gujarat Lions in 2016 and Tendulkar against Kochi Tuskers in 2011, similarity revolve around their first hundred. Both were leading the team and opened the innings.
RCB’s date contrast in 2013 and 2017:
In the last decade, RCB made it into the final of the IPL twice. Chris Gayle monstrous striking in 2011 and on the shoulders of King Kohli’s mind-boggling scoring in 2016. In 2013 he scored of 263 against Pune Warriors India in 2013 was by no means surprise.
RCB holds the record for the highest and the lowest total in IPL history.
Mumbai Indians’ David Warner Luck:
Mumbai Indians are four-time champions, and they have the highest winning rate as a team in the tournament. Mumbai have won two finals by a margin of just one run.
Hyderabad’s captain David Warner shares a rare known coincidence with Mumbai Indians.
Warner has won the Orange Cap for three IPL seasons in 2015, 2017, and 2019. And we all know which team won the title in these three years- Mumbai Indians! Warner amassed 562, 641, and 692 runs in these three seasons and finished as the leading run-scorer, but couldn’t win the title on either occasion for SRH. It will put SRH fans in a dilemma for sure.
Not Just a Regular Coincidence:
In the 2018 season, an unbelievable turn of events parted for about just three weeks occurred.
On 22nd April, Sunrisers Hyderabad hosted CSK and Rajasthan Royals hosted Mumbai Indians. Chennai won the game by four runs, and Ambati Rayudu was named as Man of the match for his score of 79 in 37 balls. Later in the evening, Mumbai Indians lost the match by three wickets, and Rohit Sharma had run out on his first ball for a duck.
On 13th May, Chennai hosted SRK, and Mumbai hosted Rajasthan Royals. CSK won the match by eight wickets, and Ambati Rayudu scored his first century in IPL and won Man of the match title again. Later Rajasthan defeated Mumbai Indians, and Rohit Sharma had dismissed for a golden duck.
Umesh Yadav’s Similar Bowling Figures:
In 2018 IPL Umesh Yadav had memories. He picked 20 wickets in the season at an economy rate of 7.86. Umesh terrorized opposition openers with pace, swing, and immaculate accuracy in the power-play overs.
Against Kings XI Punjab, Umesh produced two Man of the Match performances in that season. The extraordinary stat about both of his bowling efforts against Punjab. He picked three wickets, giving away 23 runs, the same on both occasions.
While Umesh had a brilliant 2018, his returns decreased mostly next year. In 2019, the pacer could manage a below-par eight wickets in 11 matches and gave runs at an economy of 9.81. Umesh has fallen out of the national team from the limited-overs format. However, in the company of Dale Steyn, Umesh would be raring to have a go at the batters once again this year.
