Former Australian Cricketer Stuart MacGill Kidnapped, Released An Hour Later

Stuart MacGill the former Australian test bowler was kidnapped last month and was released an hour later. The Australian police finally arrested four men. These men were taken captive in connection with the armed kidnapping of former Test bowler Stuart MacGill. They were detained in a pre-dawn raid in Sydney, following the kidnapping of MacGill in the city’s affluent Lower North Shore. Australian police have arrested 4 men:

Australian police stated that on April 14 that 3 men confronted 50-year-old MacGill at an intersection and bundled him into a vehicle. He was driven to a property an hour out of the city. MacGill was allegedly assaulted and threatened with a firearm. He was later released after an hour-long ordeal.

NSW Police Superintendent Anthony Holton was quoted saying to the media, “To be standing on a street, to be dragged into a car, driven a remote location, physically assaulted, threatened with a firearm, held for a period of time and then dumped, I think you would be pretty worried. I know it was only an hour that he was held but it would have been a horribly frightful hour to endure.” He went on to add that MacGill, who knew one of his alleged kidnappers, was “still quite shaken”.

No back story to the kidnapping Australian Cricketer Stuart MacGill 

It is learnt that MacGill’s kidnapping didn’t involve any back story that leads to him having a personal debt to other people. MacGill was solely being treated as a victim of a targeted kidnapping

Police carried out “extensive investigations” following which police strike force and riot officers arrested four men. They were aged 27, 29, 42 and 46. The arrest happened in the early hours of Wednesday. Although no ransom was paid the police believe that the kidnapping was financially motivated. The four men were in the process of being charged and are expected to appear in court later today.

Stuart MacGill was widely regarded as one of the finest exponents of wrist spin. He represented Australia in 44 Tests. MacGill was unlucky that his career coincided with that of Shane Warne. He had to often sit out owing to Warne’s presence in the team. MacGill was highly talented. A lot of experts believed had he played for any other team he must have surely picked up 500 wickets. He was a huge turner of the cricket ball but unfortunately, the last month had taken quite an unexpected turn for him.
